From viral Instagram reels to sharing screen space with Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri, Dharna Durga is stepping into mainstream cinema with one of her biggest roles yet.

Social media star and content creator Dharna Durga is all set to take a major step in her entertainment career with the Netflix film Maa Behen. The film features an ensemble cast including Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, Ravi Kishan, Geetanjali Kulkarni and Arunoday Singh. Directed by Suresh Triveni, the film premiered on Netflix on June 4.

Born in Puducherry, Dharna graduated in literature and developed a love for performing arts during her school years. She later became actively involved in theatre and drama while studying at Delhi University.

Her creative journey took a new turn during the Covid-19 pandemic when she began posting humorous and relatable videos on social media. Her witty sketches and everyday-life observations quickly gained popularity, helping her build a massive online following.

Today, Dharna has around 1.8 million followers on Instagram and nearly one million subscribers on YouTube. As her popularity grew, she began landing brand collaborations and acting opportunities. She appeared in the 2022 mini-series Bhai Behen Vs The World before making her film debut in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.

Dharna is also a trained contemporary and freestyle dancer and frequently advocates for animal adoption through her social media platforms.

Recently, Dharna found herself at the centre of an online discussion following a promotional event for Maa Behen. A viral video showed Dharna posing alongside Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri before photographers began requesting solo photographs of the two established actors.

As the photo session continued, Dharna quietly stepped aside, triggering conversations on social media about whether digital creators face additional scrutiny when transitioning into mainstream cinema.

The discussion soon expanded into a broader debate about the growing presence of influencers in films, with some questioning whether creators are being cast for their acting abilities or because of their online popularity.

Responding to the criticism, Dharna said she was not focusing on the negativity and preferred to enjoy a moment she had worked hard to achieve. She added that she was already living her dream and did not want online trolling to take away from that experience.

For Dharna Durga, Maa Behen represents a significant turning point in her career. After building a loyal audience through relatable comedy and social media content, she now steps into one of her biggest acting opportunities yet, sharing screen space with some of Bollywood’s most recognised names.

The film marks a new chapter for the creator-turned-actor as she attempts to establish herself in mainstream entertainment while continuing to connect with audiences who first discovered her online.
