In a dramatic incident caught on CCTV, a woman who entered a jewellery shop in Ahmedabad’s Ranip area with the intention of robbery ended up being slapped nearly 20 times within 25 seconds by the shopkeeper after her plan failed.

The incident took place around 12:30 pm on November 3 at a gold and silver shop near the Ranip vegetable market. The woman, with her face covered by a dupatta, posed as a customer and engaged the shopkeeper in conversation before suddenly throwing chilli powder toward his eyes in an attempt to rob him.

However, the chilli powder failed to hit its mark. Realising her intentions, the shopkeeper swiftly reacted — standing up and repeatedly slapping the woman. In the CCTV footage, he can be seen delivering around 20 slaps in just 25 seconds, even jumping over the counter to drag her out of the shop while continuing to slap her.

The footage of the incident quickly went viral on social media, with users praising the shopkeeper’s alertness and quick thinking.

Ranip Police Station Inspector Ketan Vyas confirmed that the shopkeeper has refused to file a formal complaint, but police have begun investigating the matter based on the CCTV footage.

In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Ahmedabad Police said, “The complainant was personally met twice to obtain a statement and was asked to file a complaint, but he is not inclined to do so. Nevertheless, an investigation has been initiated to identify and trace the accused based on the CCTV footage.”
