Work of double-decker flyover near Pune University begins ; to be completed by 2024

Pune: The work of the double-decker flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Chowk started on Monday with the first pier arm (transverse beam) installed with the help of a crane.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Metro Division said, “The groundwork and foundation work of the flyover had begun around 6 months back. However, from midnight of October 9 (Monday), the first pier arm of the flyover was installed. We are planning to complete this flyover by August 15 2024.”
As per further information shared by Pathan, 30 pier arms and 8 pier caps will be installed for the construction of the flyover. This flyover will be started from the center of the pillars of Shivaji Nagar- Hinjewadi Metro on Savitribai Phule Pune Vidyapeeth Road. It will start from the Pune University Road and it will split into three areas namely Aundh, Pashan and Baner.
There is an office of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on the road leading from Shivaji Nagar to Pune University. This bridge will start from there and will further descend at Aundh, Baner and Pashan. Its length is 1.7 km on both sides and width is 23 meters on both sides.
This mega flyover project is a part of the third Metro line between Hinjewadi and Shivaji Nagar. The project was initially scheduled to be completed by November 2024. Initially, the flyover project cost was Rs 239 crore. The additional Rs 26 crore will increase the total project cost to Rs 265 crore.
