Pune: Amidst the ongoing Assembly election preparations in Maharashtra, the Election Commission is taking strict measures to ensure transparency. In a recent police checkpoint, Pune Police seized gold worth approximately 138 crore rupees in the jurisdiction of Sahakar Nagar Police Station. Deputy Commissioner of Police reported that the gold has been confiscated, and both election officials and the Income Tax Department have been informed.

Citywide, police have been conducting 24-hour checkpoints across different constituencies to inspect vehicles thoroughly. Just days earlier, Pune Rural Police seized 5 crore rupees in cash at the Khed Shivapur toll plaza, followed by an additional 17.75 lakh rupees in cash confiscated in Maval.

On Friday morning (October 25), during a checkpoint in Sahakar Nagar, police discovered the gold in a small four-wheeler tempo. Both the vehicle and its driver have been detained. An investigation is underway to determine the origin of this substantial gold cache and its intended recipient. Initial reports suggest that the vehicle was registered under a transport company.
