Civil Hospital team acts swiftly after X-ray reveals a full plastic figure lodged inside a 1.5-year-old’s stomach.

Doctors at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital successfully saved the life of a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler after he accidentally swallowed a plastic toy while playing at home.

The child, identified as Vansh, reportedly began crying continuously and soon showed signs of discomfort, including vomiting. His mother, Bhavika, became alarmed when she noticed one of his toys was missing. On questioning, the child indicated that he had swallowed it, prompting the family to rush him to hospital immediately.

An X-ray examination revealed a startling discovery — the entire plastic toy, shaped like the Avengers character Hulk, was lodged inside the child’s stomach. Doctors noted that it was not a broken fragment but a complete figure with its head, hands, and legs intact.

Dr Rakesh Joshi, who was part of the treating team, explained that the main challenge was removing such a large object through the natural valve between the food pipe and the stomach. Attempts to grip the toy using an endoscope were difficult, as it repeatedly slipped due to air inside the stomach.

He added that pulling the toy by its hands or legs could have caused it to get stuck in the valve, potentially leading to permanent internal damage. After careful effort, the team managed to firmly grip the end of the toy and remove it safely without injury.

Doctors warned that if the toy had moved further into the intestine, it could have caused intestinal rupture and would likely have required surgery. Fortunately, the object was removed in time, avoiding serious complications.

Vansh is now recovering well and has been declared safe. The medical team has urged parents to remain cautious about small toys and objects that young children may accidentally swallow.
