10-Minute Delivery Rule Scrapped: Central Labor Minister Directs Major Platforms to Remove Time Limits
Delivery within 10 minutes will no longer be a requirement in India. The Central Labor Ministry has decided to cancel the controversial 10-minute delivery mandate after consultations with leading delivery platforms, prioritizing worker safety and protection over ultra-fast timelines.
Central Labor Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya met with senior officials from major delivery companies, including Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy, and Zomato, to address concerns about strict delivery deadlines. During these discussions, he recommended that companies remove the fixed time limits for deliveries from their operations, advertisements, and social media campaigns. All the companies assured the government that they would comply with this directive.
Key Highlights of the Decision
The minister instructed delivery aggregators to eliminate the mandatory 10-minute delivery deadline, a move aimed at easing the pressure on delivery workers who faced stress and risks due to tight timelines.
Following this guidance, Blinkit has already updated its branding. The company removed the 10-minute delivery option and revised its tagline from “10,000+ products delivered in 10 minutes” to “30,000+ products delivered to your doorstep.” Other major platforms are expected to make similar changes in the near future.
The discussions emphasized not only removing rigid delivery timelines but also ensuring the safety and well-being of workers. The decision reflects a broader effort to create a safer and more sustainable delivery ecosystem, while still maintaining service efficiency for consumers.
