The city of Pune witnessed a crackdown on Monday as the traffic police nabbed 142 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol on the city’s roads. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Rohidas Pawar, these individuals were found driving in an inebriated state after celebrating Holi. The police action during noon and late night, targeting those endangering lives with their intoxicated driving.

In addition to the alcohol-related arrests, the Pune traffic police conducted nakabandi operations at 27 locations across the city. During these operations, they registered offenses against 226 people for riding triple-seat on two-wheelers. Moreover, 933 motorists faced charges for reckless driving or for installing modified exhaust systems, among other violations.

The state excise department had granted 25 event permits for Holi celebrations in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Charansingh Rajput, the excise superintendent, disclosed that commercial event permits were priced at Rs 22,000, while non-commercial permits cost Rs 11,000.

These measures reflect the authorities’ commitment to ensuring public safety during festive periods. Driving under the influence of alcohol poses a serious risk to oneself and others on the road. The stringent actions taken by the traffic police aim to deter such dangerous behavior and uphold traffic regulations.
