The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken action against 160 air polluters in Pimpri Chinchwad who violate air pollution control guidelines. More than Rs 30 lakh has been collected as fine in three days.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sanjay Kulkarni, Joint City Engineer (Environment), PCMC, said “This action of violation of air pollution by-laws etc of various establishments has been taken in just 3 days. The construction works, debris thrown anywhere haphazardly etc are some of the causes for air pollution & poor air quality. Hence, the PCMC has started to strictly monitor & act on such establishments who flout norms & by-laws to tackle air pollution. So far, 160 such establishments have been fined. This action is going to continue.”

To avoid & create awareness about pollution amongst people, the PCMC has begun a ‘Swachh Diwali-Shubh Diwali’ campaign under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan till 15th November (Wednesday) till 5 pm.

As per further information from the X handle of PCMC “Diwali should be celebrated by using plastic, avoiding pollution, using eco-friendly local products. Use flower rangoli to create sustainable items from waste. A 30 second videotape, reel about it should be posted on social media using the hashtag #SwachhDiwali. Also tagging the X and Instagram handles @sbmurbangov and @pcmcindiagovin is mandatory. 30 prizes worth Rs 22 thousand will be given to the winners.”

The PCMC has deployed a total of 16 air pollution control teams across 32 wards in Pimpri-Chinchwad city –

These teams have conducted numerous inspections, issuing notices under the Environment Protection Act 1986 and the Gas (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981 for violations of pollution prevention guidelines.
