Considering the increasing number of consumers and demand for electricity in Pune circle, 17 substations, 14 of 220 KV and 3 of 132 KV, are required for quality power supply by the year 2050 and a proposal has been prepared in this regard. Also, 37 new substations have been proposed in the State Government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), informed Chief Engineer of Mahavitaran Rajendra Pawar.

As per further information from MSEDCL, Rajendra Pawar was speaking while reviewing the various works of MSEDCL in the Pune circle on Monday (1st January 2024).

Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar said that a record 2 lakh 6 thousand 468 new electricity connections have been given in Pune in the year 2023. Earlier, the speed of giving new electricity connections was 15 to 16 thousand per month, it has gone up to 19 to 20 thousand. Revenue has increased by 14.4 percent and electricity bill collection by 14.8 percent.

Accurate billing rate increased by 1.54 percent to 95.23 percent. Distribution and commercial losses are currently 7.64 and have decreased by 0.36 percent over the previous years. As many as 3971 rooftop solar power projects have been added in the past years, which is a 44 percent increase compared to the year 2022. Rajendra Pawar informed that electric vehicle charging stations of Mahavitaran have been operationalized at 18 places.

Urbanization is happening at a fast pace in the Pune periphery. As the problem of availability of space is there, Chief Engineer Rajendra Pawar said that considering the situation of power supply till 2050 in Pune circle, construction of at least 17 ultra high voltage substations is necessary. Such a proposal has been prepared. It includes 14 substations of 220 KV power at Balewadi, Charholi, Wagholi, Riverview Magarpatta, Tathawade, Moshi, Bavdhan, Mhalunge, Rohkal, Gahunje, Kadus, Koltepatil Nere Hinjewadi, Manjari, Sector 12 Pradhikaran and 3 substations of 132 KV power at Khanapur, Katraj, Bhugaon Knowledge City.

Of these, approval has been given for setting up ultra high voltage substations at Charholi and Safari Park and installation of two new 50 MVA power transformers at Bhosari Century Enka. Further action is being taken by Mahapareshan (MSETCL) in this regard.

Rajendra Pawar further said that in the State Government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), an expenditure plan of Rs 5570 crore 89 lakh has been prepared for Pune, which includes 37 new substations, 23 new power transformers and other works.
