20 lakh voters without address in Maharashtra; 11 lakh dead

Pune: The Central Election Commission (CEC) has started a voter verification campaign from August 15 across the country to check whether the address given by the voters is correct, if they are living at the same address, if the names of dead voters at that address are still there, and whether new voters are to be included.

As per further information, while doing this verification, 19 lakh 88 thousand 360 voters in the state have not been found at their given address and 11 lakh 10 thousand 881 voters have been found dead but the data is not updated.  

The campaign is also underway in the state and 100 per cent voter verification has been completed in Washim, Gadchiroli and Ratnagiri districts. 

In this campaign, Pune ranks at the bottom and the least number of voters i.e. 82 per cent have been verified in the district. In this verification, the names of more than 11 lakh 10 thousand dead voters have been omitted.

While 7 lakh 40 thousand 1 voters have migrated from the respective assembly constituencies. Therefore, about 18 lakh names have been excluded from the voter list. In this campaign, the photographs of 4 lakh 28 thousand 960 voters have been changed. It has been found that 62 thousand 765 voters are in more than one constituency in the state.

There are 9 crore 8 lakh 32 thousand 115 voters in the state and verification of 8 crore 64 lakh 34 thousand 705 voters has been completed so far. Compared to the total electorate, this percentage is 95.16.

The verification has been directed to be completed within the next ten days. The draft voter list was to be released on October 17. Now it will be released on October 27. After that, new voters will be registered till November 30.
