Qaneez Sukhrani, advisory at the DCCIA told Pune Pulse that they had several meetings since last May 2022 with various authorities for various issues related to the area on Nagar Road beyond Wagholi as the situation is abysmal. Letter written by DCCIA was hand delivered to the Collector one month ago but has had no effect. There are multiple authorities such as PMC, PMRDA & Zilla Parishad involved after merger of villages. And DCCIA has had meetings with the top officers of PMC, PMRDA & Zilla Parishad.

She further said, “Each authority transfers the onus of responsibility onto another while the area which has about 200 industries and businesses suffer environment degradation and are forced to get embarrassed before visitors to their plant.”

Following are some of the few problems the industries are suffering:

For action by PMC Health & SWM Dept ==>

i) Clearance  of dumped garbage, debris, dry branches & leaves at various places on especially near water bodies after Wagholi upto Ranjangaon For action by Health Dept before Health Dept.

ii) Dumped garbage must not be allowed to get heaped otherwise it will become mosquito breeding ground.

iii) Prepare the Solid Waste Management plan for merged villages which is long overdue. Solid Waste Management strategy must be introduced in a phase-wise manner along with a public outreach programme. This would include segregation of wet & dry waste. Deadlines for each phase in a planned manner should be fixed, ultimately reaching fines & penalties to violations. In the absence of this merged villages will become a big garbage dump with industries and businesses moving out.

For action by PMC Anti-Encroachment Dept ==>

1) Repeated karvai must be undertaken against vendors of sabji mandi / s who occupy main roads causing traffic bottlenecks on different days. Especially at Wagholi. Sabji mandis must be forced to move to land already allocated for this purpose and / or vacant land in possession of the government.

2) -Action to be taken against establishments who have exceeded & encroached after survey is conducted

For action by Zilla Parishad for cleaning of water bodies and areas around==>

1) For Water blockages and flooding, a channel from where water could pass through Koregaon Bhima Nadi. But cleaning was important to avoid flooding

2)  It is important to clear the garbage, plastic bags which were flowing and dumped into the Nullah, Nadi which was causing blocks and gushing of water onto the roads during the monsoon’s water.

When Pune Pulse spoke to Hari Srivastava, vice chairman, Deccan Chamber of Commerce Industries & Agriculture, Pune said that even after we have complained to all the authorities there seems to be no improvement. We have identified issues like water logging, garbage dumping, traffic issues as a few major problems in the area which are being faced by the industries which need to be resolved. Our chamber has been in existence since 1994 and has seen the transformation of the area completely.
