As per the order of the transport commissioner, State of Maharashtra, there will be round-the-clock vehicle inspection on the Pune-Mumbai highway starting from December 1, 2022.

A meeting, headed by the transport commissioner, was held in this regard on 12.11.2022 Regional and sub-regional transport officers of the state attended the meeting in which the road accidents and road safety measures were discussed. Save Life Foundation and Bloomberg institute made a presentation about the number of accidents occurring on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway and on the old highway. It was brought to light that vehicles moving from Pune to Mumbai were the ones caught in the accidents.

The reasons for the accidents included speeding, brake failure, not wearing seatbelts, moving from one lane to another, among others. It was revealed that not using helmets aggravated the accidents on the old Pune-Mumbai Highway.

A campaign has been planned from December 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023 on the routes connecting Pune and Mumbai through Pune and Panvel division, to bring down the number of accidents. Officials from the police department, transport department and the Indian Reserve Battalion will be patrolling on these routes round-the-clock. An action plan is being prepared for this, said police sources.
