3 Lakh Devotees Thronged Bhimashankar temple on second Shravan Monday

PUNE: On the second Shravan Monday, nearly three lakh devotees visited Bhimashankar, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. On this occasion, flowers were offered on the Shivling.

Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar is the sixth of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Every year, in the entire month of Shravan, lakhs of devotees come to see the Holy Shivalinga. The region has been witnessing heavy rains for the last eight to 10 days.

Meanwhile, the second Monday this year saw a huge crowd at Bhimashankar as three consecutive days of holidays were observed. The fourth Saturday, Sunday, was a holiday, and about six lakh devotees visited the holy Shivalinga.

The Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) had deployed 16 minibuses and 17 large buses to drop the pilgrims from the stop to the bus stand. In Shivajinagar (Pune), additional trains were released every half an hour.

Elaborate preparations were made by the administration under the guidance of Khed Police Sub-Divisional Officer Sudarshan Patil, Assistant Police Inspector Kiran Bhalekar, two police inspectors, and one assistant police inspector. There were 10 police sub-inspectors, 69 police personnel, and one RCP. A team and 30 home guards have been deployed.
