A 35-year-old banker from Pune jumped off from Atal Setu on Tuesday morning, September 3, around 11.45 am.

The banker, identified as Alex Regi, a resident of Pimpri, had come to Mumbai for a meeting. He had gone to meet his father-in-law at Chembur and was going back to Pune when he stopped his car on the bridge and jumped off.

A Nhava-Sheva police official said that the incident was caught in the cameras installed in the area. They added the dead body of Alex was later retrieved from the sea. Regi used to work for a nationalized bank and was reeling under pressure at his workplace. Due to which, he was stressed, as per the family.

He had not left any suicide note. From CCTV, the monitoring team saw the car stalled and alerted the police but he jumped immediately. The rescue team fished the body out and handed it over to the family. Further investigation is underway, a police officer said.

The prayer meet was scheduled at a church Chembur on Thursday, September 5, by the family after which the body would be taken to Pune for the last rites.

The deceased was at the managerial post and his parents work as professors in reputed colleges.

Earlier last month, a video was circulating on social media that showed a dramatic rescue of a 56-year-old woman who tried to jump off the Atal Setu. The footage showed a cab driver holding the woman from her hair to stop her from jumping. The police quickly intervened and saved the woman, preventing her from leaping off the Atal Setu sea bridge.
