Since 16th October (Monday), five out of seven swimming pools in Pimpri Chinchwad have been re-opened after the chlorine gas leak incident at Kasarwadi swimming pool on 10th October.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Mininath Dandwate, Deputy Commissioner, PCMC Sports Department, said “From Monday (16th October), 5 swimming pools have been opened for public use in Pimpri Chinchwad after being temporarily closed due to the Kasarwadi swimming pool incident. 

The swimming pool in Kasarwadi is going to open from today (23rd October). The filtration work of the swimming pool in Keshav Nagar is going on after which it will also open.”

As per further information from Dandwate, the use of chlorine powder, instead of chlorine gas, has begun at Kasarwadi swimming pool for water purification to ensure safety as well as efficient water treatment & purification.

As per further information, a total of 7 swimming pools in Pimpri Chinchwad were temporarily closed after a chlorine gas leak incident at Kasarwadi swimming pool on 10th October. However, since 16th October (Monday), 5 out of the 7 swimming pools have been re-opened after temporary closure.

At the site of the incident, the chlorine air tank used for purifying the water of the swimming pool was corroded and it was found that the cylinder was leaking due to a small hole in the tank. Fire fighters used a breathing apparatus (breathing apparatus set) to close the hole of the chlorine cylinder and control the leakage.
