The number of operational Vande Bharat trains has increased to 82, with ongoing efforts to boost their speed to 160 kmph on routes like New Delhi-Mumbai and New Delhi-Howrah, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s statement in Parliament.

The focus is on improving sectional speed, and the railways are addressing concerns about speed enhancement and occupancy.

On the question of occupancy in the Vande Bharat trains, the minister said, “During the financial year 2022-23, overall occupancy of Vande Bharat trains was 96.62 per cent.”

The MPs also wanted to know about the other changes proposed in the said trains for the convenience of passengers.

The improved Vande Bharat trains feature advanced safety measures, faster acceleration, enhanced passenger amenities, and KAVACH system integration.

State-wise revenue data for these trains is not tracked, the minister mentioned.
