957 grams of gold worth ₹72.47 lakh found hidden in rectum of passenger from Dubai
Delhi: Customs officials in Delhi arrested an Indian passenger arriving from Dubai, UAE, for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 72,47,891 concealed in his rectum. The incident took place at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on November 7.
The arrest was made based on intelligence inputs. The officials intercepted the passenger, recovering three oval-shaped capsules containing gold in chemical paste form, with a gross weight of 1,124 grams. Upon extraction, the paste yielded one rectangular, one triangular, and one uneven-shaped gold bar, totaling 957.57 grams and valued at Rs 72,47,891.
On the basis of profiling, one passenger arriving from Dubai to Delhi was intercepted by Customs@IGI Airport on 07.11.2024 to recover three(3) oval shaped capsules containing gold in chemical paste from rectum cavity. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Delhi Customs confirmed the arrest, conducted under Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962. The undeclared gold was confiscated under Section 110 of the Act, and further investigation is ongoing.
This incident highlights a growing trend among smugglers using creative methods to evade detection. On the same day, customs officials at IGIA seized another 408 grams of gold from an Indian passenger arriving from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
