Traffic woes on Dehu Road to Chandni Chowk will soon be over: MP Barne
MP Shrirang Barne meets Nitin Gadkari requesting new DPR to be approved soon
Pimpri-Chinchwad MP Shrirang Barne recently met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Delhi to address persistent traffic problems at Wakad and Tathwade on National Highway 4. During their discussion, Gadkari noted that while the ministry is ready to tackle the roadwork, progress has been hindered because the previous contractor has taken the issue to the Supreme Court.
MP Barne highlighted that National Highway 4 runs through the Maval Lok Sabha constituency, and the insufficient heights and widths of underpasses and overbridges at Dehu Road, Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, and Wakad are causing severe traffic congestion. He emphasized that the need for an updated Detailed Project Report (DPR) to address these issues has been recognized for some time, and continuous follow-ups have led to the preparation of a new DPR.
The responsibility for completing and maintaining the road from Dehu Road to Chandani Chowk was initially assigned to Reliance. However, the contractor has failed to finish the work, leaving many sections incomplete. The stretch from Dehu Road to Wakad falls under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, whereas the area from Wakad to Chandani Chowk is within the Pune Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction.
The highway features 12 underpasses and flyovers between Dehuroad and Chandani Chowk, which have been contributing to traffic jams. A revised DPR has been prepared to address these concerns. The DPR for developing the road from Ravet to Chandani Chowk is currently awaiting final approval from the cabinet. MP Barne has requested prompt approval of the new DPR, with hopes that once it is approved, the bidding process will begin and construction work will start soon. He remains optimistic that these steps will help alleviate the traffic congestion issues.
