Pune Rain Alert: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued severe weather warnings as heavy rainfall continues across Pune and several other districts. The downpour, which began early this morning, has been intense, leading to significant water accumulation in key reservoirs serving Pune.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast and Alerts:

  • Pune and Ghats: Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecasted for Pune and the surrounding ghats. The continuous rain has resulted in full reservoirs, including those critical for the city’s water supply.
  • Statewide Alerts: The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Pune and Satara, indicating the potential for significant rainfall. Kolhapur is under a Red Alert due to the likelihood of extremely heavy rains. The Konkan region, including Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, also faces an Orange Alert. Other regions like Vidarbha and Marathwada are under Yellow Alerts for moderate to heavy rain.

  • Bhatsa Dam: The Bhatsa Dam in Bhor has reached 98% capacity. As a result, the irrigation department has begun releasing water into the Nira River to manage the reservoir levels.
  • Pune’s Supply Dams: The four main dams supplying Pune are nearing full capacity:
  • Khadakwasla Dam: 72.83%
  • Panshet Dam: 90.72%
  • Varasgaon Dam: 92.82%
  • Temghar Dam: 93.28%
