Pune: Research Scientist Vineet Kumar Stops Weather Updates Due to ‘Unavoidable Circumstances’
Pune, August 2, 2024 – Vineet Kumar, a research scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), has announced that he will no longer provide weather updates via his X (formerly Twitter) handle. Kumar cited “unavoidable circumstances and restrictions” as the reasons for halting his updates, which have been a valuable resource for Pune People.
On Friday morning, Kumar informed his followers with a brief message: “This is to inform that due to unavoidable circumstances and restrictions, I will not be posting any weather updates from today onwards. Thank you all.”
The announcement sparked a wave of reactions from Pune’s social media community, with users expressing concern and curiosity about the nature of the restrictions. One user praised Kumar’s contributions, stating, “That’s very sad to hear for Pune. @vineet_tropmet has been providing the best short-term and long-term weather updates for #Pune.
His service has been invaluable over the years, even during his research stint in Korea.”
Another comment read, “Disheartening to read this. The guy whom all Punekars trusted for weather forecasts will no longer be providing this free public service. We will all miss his updates. Thanks.”
Some users suggested alternatives, such as creating a Telegram channel for continued updates, while others reassured Kumar of his significant impact: “Vineet Sir, you are the most accurate weather interpreter for Pune; no one can match your work. Hope all is well.”
In response to the outpouring of support, Kumar addressed his followers, clarifying that his decision was not related to any issues with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). He stated, “A note for all: I am doing well health-wise, thank you all for your lovely messages. Please do not blame IMD or @Hosalikar_KS sir for my decision. It is because of IMD models, scientists, and IMD’s precious data that weather forecasting in India has significantly improved.”
