Pune: Residents of Sahil Heights in Pimple Nilakh Fight Back Against Unlawful Tree Cutting, Demand Legal Action from PCMC
Residents of Sahil Heights Society in Pimple Nilakh are raising their voices against the unauthorized cutting of trees within their community. Despite repeated appeals to Society President Vikrant Bansode and Treasurer Sachin Bhandari to halt this environmental destruction, the tree cutting persists, leading residents to seek legal intervention from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). In their complaint to the PCMC’s Garden Department, the residents emphasized the contradiction in the actions of their society officials. On one hand, the municipal corporation promotes tree plantation to maintain environmental balance, while on the other, educated residents are cutting down high-quality trees in the society’s premises. This blatant disregard for environmental conservation has left the residents in shock and dismay.
When Sahil Heights Society was established in Pimple Nilakh, it was designed with a vision to sustain future environmental balance by planting high-quality, oxygen-giving trees within its premises. However, in recent times, these healthy trees have been targeted and cut down by the society’s officials. Numerous trees in Sahil Heights Society have been axed, causing significant ecological damage.
Despite multiple requests from the residents to stop the tree felling, President Vikrant Bansode and Treasurer Sachin Bhandari have shown no willingness to change their stance. Their continued actions have led residents to demand legal action from Deputy Commissioner of the Garden Department, Ravikiran Ghodke.

Assistant Garden Officer Anil Gaikwad confirmed a recent assessment of the tree felling at Sahil Heights Society. He stated, “A detailed report of the assessment will be submitted to the chief officer of the Garden Department. Notices will be issued to those responsible for the illegal tree felling, followed by legal action if necessary.”
The residents’ appeal underscores a critical issue: while the municipal administration strives to promote environmental preservation, the society members’ actions are causing severe environmental degradation. This paradox has led to an urgent call for accountability and immediate legal action against those responsible for the tree cutting.
