Residents of Mohammadwadi under the aegis of NIBM  Annexe Residents Forum pressed hard for their demand before the Pune Municipal Corporation Roads department to ensure that 24 meter road as per the Development Plan (DP) must be constructed by the civic body. Following several complaints related to slow road construction work, lack of drainage work, streetlights leading to citizen suffering, PMC Junior Engineer Gautam Gawand and Adarsh Bharat Contractors representatives Mr Islam and Mr Nirgade visited the area and met members of the Resident Forum.

NIBM Annexe Residents Forum Director Jaymala Dhankikar said “ Though the meeting was positive, the road contractor representatives despite being questioned did not get physical measurement of the road length, it was not done as the representatives remained elusive and seemed to avoid a discussion on the topic . We strongly suspect the carriageway of the road has narrowed as the PMC has failed to take adequate steps of land acquisition in the past which is creating problems for the citizens of the present. PMC has to ensure that a 24 meter road is built from Raheja Premiere Circle till NIBM annexe slope failing which we will initiate legal proceedings against the civic body. Also if any builder has encroached on the road must be checked and their illegal structures be demolished with immediate effect ,” she said.

Dhankikar said that the PMC collected Rs 223 crores as taxes from the area during the past one decade but failed to provide any civic amenity. There is a need to audit all works done and fix responsibilities on PMC officials for their inept functioning by making PMC accountable to citizens.

Residents will not hesitate to take legal action and approach court to ensure PMC becomes subservient to law as it has forgotten the citizens ,” he said
