Meta is testing a redesigned Facebook experience that opens directly to immersive full-screen videos, aiming to improve content discovery while keeping the traditional interface available for users.

Meta is testing one of the biggest design changes for Facebook in recent years by introducing a TikTok-style full-screen video feed that appears as soon as users open the app. The move is aimed at making video discovery easier and improving the experience for people who spend more time watching content than posting updates.

The new interface is currently in the testing phase and will be rolled out to selected users before a wider release. Meta has clarified that the feature will not be compulsory, and users who prefer the traditional Facebook experience will still have the option to switch back to the classic version.

With the redesigned interface, Facebook will open directly into an immersive full-screen video feed. The change is intended to make video viewing more engaging and seamless, similar to the experience offered by popular short-video platforms.

The update comes as user behaviour on social media continues to evolve. Over the past few years, fewer people have been actively posting status updates, updating their profiles or chatting on Facebook. Instead, users are increasingly spending time watching videos and consuming personalised content.

To meet this changing trend, Meta believes that showing videos based on individual interests can improve user engagement. The company is therefore placing greater emphasis on video recommendations and content discovery.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play an important role in powering the new experience. Instead of showing content only from friends and accounts users follow, Facebook’s recommendation system will analyse viewing interests and suggest relevant videos from millions of available posts. This AI-driven approach is expected to help users discover more content that matches their preferences.

Meta has also indicated that user feedback will determine the final rollout of the feature. Since the redesign is still being tested, the company may make changes before releasing it to all users. Those participating in the test will be able to return to the familiar Facebook layout if they do not prefer the new interface.

The update reflects Meta’s broader strategy of strengthening Facebook’s video ecosystem as competition in the short-form video space continues to grow. By making video recommendations more prominent while retaining the option to use the classic interface, the company hopes to appeal to both long-time Facebook users and younger audiences who prefer immersive video-first experiences.

For users, the biggest takeaway is that Facebook is becoming more focused on personalised video discovery, but without completely replacing the traditional experience that many people are accustomed to.
