According to CEO Albinder Dhindsa, the lead-up to Raksha Bandhan, or Rakhi, has resulted in a significant boost for Blinkit, the quick-commerce service owned by Zomato. He shared that on Sunday, the company surpassed its previous records in various sales metrics, including orders per minute (OPM), with hundreds of Rakhis ordered—specifically, 693.

Dhindsa announced on X, “We’ll surpass all-time high orders in a day on Blinkit within a few minutes. Today, we also achieved our highest ever OPM, GMV, chocolate sales, and numerous other metrics”. Dhindsa referred to the trend as “last-minute Rakhi buying,” confirming that the record was shattered earlier on Sunday evening.

Social media users calculated the numbers, estimating that the total orders amounted to nearly a million Rakhis.

However, these figures might be misleading since Dhindsa clearly stated that the 693-Rakhis-per-minute statistic represented the peak of the trend.

The CEO expressed gratitude to customers, especially those placing their first Blinkit order, for their trust in the service that made this success possible.

He also highlighted Blinkit’s mithai sales, sharing a graph of the three most-ordered Indian sweets. “It’s a close competition between Laddu and Gulab Jamun. But the real surprise today has been Kaju Katli sales,” he noted.

Dhindsa mentioned that Laddus outperformed the other two sweets in sales last year.

In response to his post, an X user remarked that this insight could serve as an “economic index,” pointing out that Laddu is the least expensive among the sweets, while Kaju Katli is the most costly.
