India’s Largest Hospital Rising: 24 Floors High with an Emergency Helipad
Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is witnessing the construction of the largest hospital in India. The new facility, named Sawai Man Singh Hospital (SMSH), is designed to accommodate 1,200 beds and stands at a towering height of approximately 116 meters across 24 floors. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot laid the foundation for this ambitious project in 2022, and significant progress has been made since. The hospital is anticipated to open its doors to the public within the next year.
The SMSH will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, including a dedicated helipad on its roof to facilitate the airlifting of critically ill patients. This feature underscores the hospital’s commitment to providing top-tier emergency care. With an estimated construction cost of 588 crore rupees, the hospital’s completion is slated for 2025.
The hospital’s inception aligns with the Right to Health Act initiated by the Rajasthan government, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility for all citizens. The SMSH will also house the Cardiovascular Science Institute, which will further bolster its role as a hub for advanced medical treatment. The existing SMS Hospital, with its older building, currently manages around 15,000 outpatient visits daily. The new facility promises to significantly improve service quality and accommodate more patients.
Dr. Naresh Trehan, a renowned cardiologist, highlighted that the existing facility performs approximately 700 angioplasties each month, indicating a strong need for improved cardiac care services. The new building will not only cater to local patients but will also attract those from neighboring states seeking specialized heart treatments.
The SMSH is expected to be a game-changer in the healthcare sector, bringing advanced medical services to Jaipur and setting a new benchmark for hospital infrastructure in India.
