Maharashtra has launched its first solar park under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 (MSKVY 2.0) in Dhondalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. With an initial capacity of 3 MW, the project aims to provide daytime electricity to 1,753 farmers for their agricultural pumps, marking a significant step towards renewable energy in the state.

This solar initiative is part of the state’s ambitious goal to develop 9,200 MW of solar power by December 2025, according to Lokesh Chandra, Chairman and Managing Director of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). The project was completed in just four and a half months and is connected to a 33 KV substation.

Implemented under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the scheme is considered one of the largest distributed renewable energy projects globally. Farmers in Dhondalgaon, Nalegaon, Amanatpurwadi, and Sanjapurwadi are among the first beneficiaries.

In response to longstanding demands for consistent daytime power for agricultural pumps, MSKVY 2.0 addresses this by generating solar energy to power these systems. Plans are underway to expand the scheme to 16,000 MW, benefitting more farmers across Maharashtra.
