Pune Airport Takes Leap Towards Safety: All Aerobridges Now Operational

In a significant boost to passenger safety and convenience, all ten aerobridges at Pune Airport’s new terminal are now fully operational. This milestone marks the end of passengers’ tedious walks from the parking bay to the terminal, eliminating the risk of accidents.
Previously, hundreds of passengers daily had to navigate through the airport’s busy airside, where various vehicles operate, to reach the terminal. This posed a significant safety risk, with two accidents reported in the last three months involving ground staff. The airport administration’s insistence on mandatory aerobridge use for all airlines has finally paid off.
The new terminal boasts five aerobridges, while the remaining five serve the old terminal. This upgrade ensures seamless connectivity for passengers, eliminating the need for buses or lengthy walks. With 38,000 daily passengers across both terminals, this development is a welcome relief.
Experts highlight the dangers of passengers walking on the airside, citing the presence of vehicles like baggage tractors, push back tugs, and fuel bowsers. Ground staff often drive rapidly to meet deadlines, increasing the accident risk. The restricted areas on the airside are frequently breached, further compromising safety.
“The mandatory use of aerobridges is a crucial step towards enhancing passenger safety,” said an airport official. “We’re committed to providing a secure and convenient travel experience.”
