Pune Based Crane Company Moves To Gujarat Over Road Issues
In a significant blow to Maharashtra’s industrial sector, United Crane Private Limited, based in Mulshi Taluka’s Dhanwewadi, is relocating to Gujarat. The decision comes as a result of poor road conditions that have severely impacted the company’s operations.
For the past twelve years, United Crane has been manufacturing heavy cranes at their Pune facility. However, the deteriorating condition of the Pune-Paud-Dhanwewadi road has made it impossible for motor trucks and containers to access the site. This has led the company to halt operations and plan a move to Gujarat.
The local workforce of about 400 employees now faces unemployment due to the closure. Despite repeated appeals from residents for road repairs, no action has been taken to improve the infrastructure.
The situation highlights a growing issue in Maharashtra where existing industries are leaving due to inadequate facilities. While the state government is working to attract new businesses, current companies are struggling with poor roads, high rental costs, inadequate water supply, waste management issues, and unreliable electricity.
Over the past decade, 37 IT companies have also moved out of Pune’s Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park due to deteriorating infrastructure and traffic congestion. According to the Hindustan Industries Association (HIA), many businesses are relocating either to other parts of the state or outside Maharashtra due to these ongoing challenges.
