The Maharashtra state government has approved the connection of a 53-kilometer elevated, six-lane road from Pune to Shirur with the Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Expressway, passing through Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This road project will start at Pune Bypass Road, near Kesnand and Lonikand, improving connectivity in the region.

The project, which will be executed by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), is expected to ease traffic congestion and significantly reduce travel time between Pune and Shirur. The entire expressway will span approximately 250 kilometers and provide key entry and exit points to cities like Shirur, Ahmednagar, Nevasa, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

The project is expected to cost ₹7,515 crore for the Pune-Shirur stretch, with an additional ₹2,050 crore for improvements in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar route. The total cost is estimated at ₹9,565 crore.

As per the plan, the Public Works Department (PWD) and MSIDC will ensure the project begins within two years. If not initiated on time, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) may intervene to take over the project for completion.
