Influencer Criticizes Diljit Dosanjh for High Ticket Prices During ‘Dil-Luminati’ India Tour: ‘In This Economy?’
Pune: Controversy Over Diljit Dosanjh’s Concert In Kothrud Raises Questions About Future Events
Comedian and social media influencer Saumya Sahni calls out the steep pricing of Diljit Dosanjh’s India tour tickets, sparking debate on access for middle-class fans.
Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s highly anticipated Dil-Luminati India tour has drawn widespread attention, not only for its quick sell-out but also for its high ticket prices. Mumbai-based comedian and influencer Saumya Sahni took to social media to voice her disappointment over the cost, questioning whether such high pricing is fair for his Indian fans, many of whom are struggling financially.
In a video posted on Friday, Sahni expressed her frustration, stating, “No Indian artist should charge ₹20-25 thousand for a concert when they are performing in multiple cities. Fans in India are dealing with unemployment and limited means of entertainment. For many, there is no access to an artist like him.” She argued that, given Dosanjh’s overseas success, he could have lowered the ticket prices for his Indian audience. She also compared his prices to international artists, noting that many global performers charge between $100-150 (roughly ₹8,000-12,000), despite having bigger production setups.
Sahni further emphasized the emotional connection many fans have with Dosanjh, especially since he sings in their native language. “It’s wild that middle-class families and kids who look up to him are priced out of seeing him live in concert,” she added. Her post also included the caption, “₹15K for a concert? In this economy? In this country?”
Many on Instagram supported Sahni’s stance, with comments like, “He’s going to realize this when nobody sings back during the concert,” and “I never expected Diljit to be so consumed by fame and money.” Others pointed out the stark contrast between ticket prices and what middle-class fans can realistically afford, with one commenter suggesting that ₹500 should be the maximum price for such a concert.
Despite the criticism, tickets for Dosanjh’s tour sold out almost immediately, with many fans flocking to social media to discuss the “insane craze” surrounding the event. The Dil-Luminati India tour kicks off in Delhi on October 26, followed by stops in several other major cities including Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Pune.
As the debate over ticket pricing continues, Sahni’s video has sparked a broader conversation about the affordability and accessibility of live performances in India, particularly for fans in lower-income brackets.
