Harshad Abhyankar from Save Pune Traffic Movement said, “People may criticise the idea as – the conditions for pedestrians are bad, what are you ‘celebrating’. But that is exactly the reason why we need a Pedestrian Day. Environment Day and Women’s Day have contributed a lot in keeping the related issues in the limelight. Then discussions happen and problems get addressed one by one, to whatever extent.”
He further said, our intention is that in addition to govt organizations, citizen entities should also come up with ideas to observe the day. It could be any activity on that day. We have submitted a list of activities that could be hosted. Even a blood donation camp as long as it creates visibility for Pedestrians Day, it will also create awareness about pedestrians’ problems.
