Pune News: Two Booked In ₹ 1.22 Crore Real Estate Fraud Case
The Chandannagar police have filed a case against two individuals for allegedly defrauding a victim of ₹1.22 crore in a real estate scam. The incident occurred between 2021 and 2023. The complaint was lodged by Avinash Kumar Laxman Kumar Behera, 32, a resident of Keshavnagar, on September 29, 2024.
The accused, identified as Ishwar Gahininath Budhwant from Kharadi and Swapnil Balasaheb Pawar from Indapur, had promised to help Behera purchase a plot of land for constructing a bungalow. They initially took ₹46.32 lakh from Behera as an advance and an additional ₹65.50 lakh from his friend.
Despite issuing promissory notes confirming receipt of the money, the accused failed to deliver the land or return the funds. When Behera demanded a refund, one of the accused refused, stating that neither the land nor the money would be provided.
Police have registered the case under sections 406, 420, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, though no arrests have been made yet.
This case highlights growing concerns over fraudulent practices in the real estate sector.
