Pune Airport Runway Expansion Cleared for International Flights: Final Technical Steps Underway
Pune: The runway expansion and addition of new facilities at Pune Airport have been approved, paving the way for international flights to operate soon. Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Muralidhar Mohol, announced that with the Obstacle Limitation Survey (OLS) report confirming the viability of the expansion, only a few technical formalities remain before Pune Airport can host international flights.
A high-level technical meeting was held at the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation in New Delhi to finalize details for accommodating code ‘E’ aircraft, which will enable international operations. Key topics discussed included land acquisition by the state government, land transfer from the Ministry of Defence, runway length, and the construction of a new terminal building. The Airports Authority of India was directed to coordinate with the Ministry of Defence, state governments, and conduct any necessary additional surveys.
Attendees included Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Vumlunmang Vualnam, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Deepti Mohil Chawla, Airports Authority of India Chairperson, M Suresh, Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Group Captain Manoj Rana, Air Marshal YK Dixit, and Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke.
