Can Pune’s New Metro Line from Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi Be Ready by April 2025?

Pune: PMRDA Extends Deadline For Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line-3 To September 2025
Pune: Following the recent virtual inauguration of the District Court to Swargate stretch on Pune Metro’s PCMC-Swargate route by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ridership has surged significantly on this line. Commuters now enjoy a 35-minute ride between Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune for just 35 rupees, easing traffic congestion for Punekars.
From October 1 to 5, the PCMC-Swargate route saw a ridership of 345,000, with daily figures ranging from 63,683 to 76,087 passengers. As traffic continues to challenge Pune, many are eager for the Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Metro to provide similar relief.
The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro (Line 3), currently under construction, promises to alleviate congestion for commuters traveling to the Hinjewadi IT Park. With 70 percent of the project completed, the line is expected to be operational by April 2025. In September, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed round-the-clock construction on public holidays to expedite the project’s progress.
Developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd for the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, this elevated line will cover 23.2 kilometers with 23 stations, starting at Maan Village and connecting Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar.
Key Project Details:
Length: 23.203 km
Depot Location: Maan Village (20 hectares)
Total Stations: 23
Notable Stations: Megapolis Circle, Hinjewadi, Wakad Chowk, Balewadi Stadium, University, Shivajinagar, Civil Court
With 99 percent of land acquisition complete, this metro line is set to transform Pune’s transit landscape, easing traffic for thousands of daily commuters.
