In addition, the survey will cover urban areas in Pune (27 wards), Nagpur (18 wards), and Nashik (11 wards), involving a total of 10,395 participants over the next eight months.

Conducted by experts from BJ Medical College (BJMC) and Sassoon General Hospital (SGH), the NMHS-2 is supported by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru, along with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). This phase will gather critical data on emerging mental health concerns, following up on the insights from NMHS-1, which was conducted in 2015-16 across 12 states.

The survey aims to assess the prevalence of mental health issues, healthcare-seeking behaviors, and provide a national snapshot using ICD/DSM standards. Along with representative surveys, the initiative will establish surveillance sites, launch longitudinal studies, and conduct research on mental health interventions.
