Discover 'Singapur' in Maharashtra: A Hidden Hill Station with Scenic Beauty
The State Transport buses have reached every corner of Maharashtra. You might find it hard to believe that there’s a direct ST bus from Maharashtra to Singapur. But it’s true! This Singapore isn’t the country, but a small village in Maharashtra that has gained attention for its unique name and stunning landscapes. Known as a hidden hill station, Singapur is the perfect destination for a quick getaway in the lap of nature.
While Singapore is often labeled the richest country in Asia, the Singapur in Maharashtra is quite humble. Nestled in the Sahyadri mountain ranges of Murbad taluka, it is surrounded by dense forests. Among these ranges are three ancient ghat routes: Malshej, Nane, and Darya. The national highway runs through Malshej ghat, while the other two still have traditional footpaths connecting to Pune district. Half of these mountain ranges fall within Thane district, while the other half is in Pune. These ghats serve as the border between Konkan and Western Maharashtra, with the village of Singapur located within this picturesque setting.
Singapore offers a cool climate similar to that of Matheran and Mahabaleshwar, and its natural beauty is truly uplifting. While Malshej attracts many tourists, few are aware of Singapur. As you enter the village, the peaks of the Nane and Darya ghats rise majestically on the horizon. The Kanakvira river, originating from the Darya ghat, winds its way through the area. The mountain ranges in this region are home to perennial water sources, resulting in numerous springs and waterfalls in the village of Singapur. It’s an excellent destination for trekking.
Agriculture and animal husbandry are the primary livelihoods for the villagers. Although there are no accommodations for overnight stays, locals have recently started homestay facilities to promote tourism.
