Pune, October 23, 2024: A shocking case of animal cruelty has emerged from Pune’s Pirangut area, where a pet dog was reportedly beaten and hanged to death by its owner. The incident was brought to light by *Streetdogsbombay*, an animal rights foundation, through an Instagram post that has since gone viral.
The dog, allegedly owned by a resident named Omkar Jagtap, faced brutal treatment before being hanged. According to the foundation, an SOS call was made to alert authorities that the family had threatened to kill the dog if it was not removed from their home. Unfortunately, help did not arrive in time, and the dog was found hanging from a tree.
The disturbing post has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for justice for the innocent pet who lost its life at the hands of those meant to care for it. As of now, no legal action has been reported against those responsible for the tragic act.
Another Incident of Animal Abuse in Pune
This heartbreaking case follows another animal cruelty incident in Pune, where a puppy was allegedly burned alive by staff at an NGO-run shelter. A resident, Anupran Trivedi, had rescued a dog named Shadow but later left it at a shelter that turned out to be in poor condition. Days later, after concerns about the shelter, Trivedi discovered a disturbing turn of events when villagers led him to a carcass resembling Shadow. This prompted Trivedi to file a complaint with the police.
Calls for Justice
Public figures, including Shiv Sena UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray, have condemned these incidents, urging the Pune Police to take swift action. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Thackeray called the incident “inhumane,” emphasizing that pets are family and deserve better treatment.
Both cases have sparked widespread condemnation and calls for stricter laws and enforcement to prevent further acts of cruelty against animals.
