Maharashtra Assembly Election: Congress Set To Announce First List Of Candidates For Pune District, Including Dhangekar, Jagtap, and Thopte
The Congress party is preparing to release its first list of candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, with three key names from Pune district likely to be included. According to party insiders, Ravindra Dhangekar (Kasba Peth), Sangram Thopte (Bhor), and Sanjay Jagtap (Purandar) are almost confirmed as the party’s candidates. All three are sitting MLAs and enjoy strong support within the party.
While these three names are expected to be announced soon, decisions for other constituencies like Pune Cantonment and Shivajinagar may be delayed due to multiple contenders vying for the seats. These areas will likely be addressed in the party’s second list, as discussions are still ongoing within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance.
In Purandar, a key contest is expected between Jagtap and Shiv Sena’s Vijay Shivtare. Shivtare had previously considered running as an independent in the Lok Sabha elections, but was persuaded to step down after assurances of future support. Despite being a former Minister of State, Shivtare lost to Jagtap in their last electoral clash.
With seat-sharing talks still unresolved, Congress aims to move forward in areas where internal conflict is minimal.
