Pune News: Water Crisis Mars Day 1 of India vs New Zealand Test at MCA Stadium

Water Crisis Mars Day 1 of India vs New Zealand Test at MCA Stadium
A record crowd of 17,798 fans filled the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium on the opening day of the second Test between India and New Zealand, showcasing fans’ devotion despite the venue’s distance from Pune and challenging travel conditions. However, inside the stadium, spectators faced a severe shortage of water, particularly in the North Stand, leading to chants of “MCA, MCA, give us some water” amid the rising October heat.
Spectators endured long queues, unclean toilets, and an inadequate number of kiosks that quickly ran out of drinking water. Frustrated fans attempted to leave the stadium in search of water outside but were denied re-entry. To address the immediate needs, volunteers distributed water bottles to the crowd, though supplies ran out swiftly.

With water scarce, some vendors capitalized on the situation, reportedly charging up to 60 rupees per liter. Fans took to social media to voice their discontent, with one user remarking, “Indian fans don’t even have drinking water in Pune. This is how the world’s richest board treats fans!”
Despite the hardships, fans remained steadfast, eager to see their favorite players in action, and transforming the experience into an unforgettable, if uncomfortable, event.
