Indian Scientists Develop Cutting-Edge Technology To Boost Oxygen Production In MiG-29 Fighter JetsĀ
In a significant breakthrough, scientists at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) have successfully developed a revolutionary technology to enhance oxygen production in the MiG-29 fighter jet On Board Oxygen Generation System (OBOGS). This innovative solution is set to significantly improve pilot safety and performance at high altitudes.
The research project, initiated in 2023 at the request of the Indian Air Force, was led by Dr. Vijay Bokade and Dr. Prashant Niphadkar, along with their team of students. The scientists devised a rejuvenating process to combat moisture-reduced zeolite efficiency, resulting in a remarkable increase in oxygen production from 30% to 85%. Tests conducted at Nashik’s air force base confirmed the system’s efficacy.
According to Dr. Bokade, “NCL’s novel zeolite technology is a game-changer for the Indian Air Force. Our breakthrough ensures enhanced pilot safety and performance, even at extreme altitudes.” The indigenous development of zeolite technology ensures long-term efficiency of the OBOGS system, achieving an impressive oxygen purity of 93%.
This cutting-edge technology underscores India’s commitment to indigenous defense innovation, bolstering the nation’s military capabilities. The implementation of this system in MiG-29 aircraft is currently underway, marking a significant milestone in India’s defense landscape.
The successful development of this technology demonstrates the capabilities of Indian scientists and researchers in addressing critical defense needs. As India continues to prioritize defense innovation, breakthroughs like these will play a crucial role in enhancing national security.
The Indian Air Force will greatly benefit from this technological advancement, ensuring pilots operate with enhanced safety and effectiveness. With this development, India takes another step forward in strengthening its defense capabilities.
