Pune, October 29, 2024 – Ramesh Bagwe, the Congress candidate and former Minister of State for Home, officially filed his nomination for the Pune Cantonment constituency in the upcoming 2024 Legislative Assembly elections. Congress is pinning its hopes on Bagwe, a seasoned party loyalist, to reclaim the seat from sitting BJP MLA Sunil Kamble.

Bagwe was accompanied by Sahil Kedari, vice president, OBC Cell, Maharashtra State Congress Committee.

Pune Cantonment has traditionally been a Congress stronghold, with Bagwe previously securing victories in 2004 and 2009. However, in 2014, BJP gained ground, breaking Congress’s hold and retaining the seat in 2019 with Kamble. The constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates, represents approximately 290,000 voters.

The upcoming election is expected to see a fierce contest as Bagwe aims to reestablish Congress’s influence in a constituency they held for decades.
