IMD attributes cooler nights to Cyclone Dana’s westward movement; air quality remains moderate with AQI at 127

As winter approaches, Pune is feeling the first hints of chill with nighttime temperatures dropping notably. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shivajinagar recorded a minimum of 15.2 degrees Celsius on November 7, while areas like NDA and Loni Kalbhor saw even lower readings, reaching 13 degrees Celsius.

Earlier, on October 26, Pune’s minimum temperature hit 16.7 degrees, climbing gradually to 19.9 degrees on November 1. Since then, temperatures have steadily fallen, with IMD noting a drop to below-normal seasonal levels. The city outskirts followed suit, dipping to 13 degrees, with foggy conditions emerging late at night and in the early morning.

The maximum temperature has also slightly decreased, from 33.1 degrees Celsius on November 1 to 31.9 degrees on November 7. IMD officials explain that Cyclone Dana’s westward movement initially caused an uptick in temperatures, but with diminishing atmospheric moisture and no active weather system over Maharashtra, cooler, dry conditions have set in.

Meanwhile, air quality in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad remains at a ‘moderate’ level. Pune’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 127, with areas like Nigdi, Shivajinagar, Lohegaon, and Katraj Dairy recording AQIs above 100. According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology’s Air Quality Early Warning System, air quality may further decline in the next 24 hours.
