Pune Man Loses ₹76.11 Lakh In Online Share Trading Scam

Pune, November 11, 2024 – A 25-year-old woman from Wanowrie was allegedly scammed out of ₹13.30 lakh by a fraudster posing as a representative from her life insurance provider. The accused reportedly gained her trust over the phone, instructing her to transfer money under the pretense of paying an insurance premium and processing a claim demand draft.

The fraudulent transactions occurred between June 9 and November 2, 2024. According to the investigating officer, the scammer persuaded the woman that the funds were needed for claim preparation, providing her with bank details and encouraging multiple transfers into the designated account.

Authorities have registered the case under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as Section 66D of the Information Technology Act. An investigation is underway to identify the accused and recover the stolen funds.
