Scammer Posing as Police Officer Gets Exposed by Real Cop in Thrissur: 'Ye Kaam Chhod Do Bhai'
A scammer accidentally video-calls a Thrissur Cyber Cell officer, leading to a viral and hilarious takedown.
A scammer posing as a Mumbai police officer was left stunned when his attempted fraud unraveled in a comedic twist. The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, showcased the quick thinking and professionalism of the Thrissur Police in exposing a con artist.
The drama unfolded when the scammer, dressed in a police uniform, video-called a man he believed to be his next victim. However, unbeknownst to him, he had dialed an officer from Thrissur’s Cyber Cell. The scammer introduced himself confidently, claiming to be a Mumbai officer. When he asked the recipient to turn on his camera, the Thrissur cop initially responded with a clever diversion, saying, “My camera is not working properly, sir.”
As the scammer insisted, the officer complied, turning on his camera and calmly asking, “What do you do?” It was at this moment the scammer realised his monumental error. Bursting into laughter, he quickly understood that he was speaking to a real police officer, not a gullible target.
The Thrissur officer used the opportunity to reprimand the scammer. “Stop doing this work,” he said firmly, adding, “I have your address, your location, and everything. This is Cyber Cell. It’s best you stop doing this work.”
The video of this encounter, shared by the Thrissur City Police, became an instant hit online, racking up over two lakh views within hours. Social media users couldn’t get enough of the hilarious and satisfying takedown.
One Instagram user quipped, “This is what happens when you think you can fool everyone. Poor guy didn’t even realise who he was talking to!” Another joked, “Looks like he won’t be wearing that uniform for long.”

The video also drew praise for the officer’s composure and sharp thinking. “Great job by the Thrissur Cyber Cell. This is how it’s done!” wrote one viewer. Others laughed at the scammer’s awkward realisation, with comments like, “Caught red-handed! That awkward moment when you realise you’re the one being scammed.”
This incident highlights the growing efforts by cybercrime units to combat fraud and educate the public on staying vigilant against scams. It also serves as a reminder to scammers that their next call could land them in a similar, or worse, predicament.
