Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024: Peaceful Voting In Pune With No Major Incidents
Pune: The voting process for the Maharashtra Assembly elections on Wednesday concluded peacefully in Pune city, with no significant untoward incidents reported. Except for minor disputes among party workers, the elections were conducted without disruptions, said Additional Police Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma. Under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Sharma, a robust security arrangement was implemented to ensure smooth polling across the city’s eight assembly constituencies.
To facilitate the process, Pune Police deployed extensive security, involving 600 police officers, 6,800 personnel, 1,750 Home Guard members, and 17 units of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and Central Security Forces. Special attention was given to sensitive polling stations, with additional security deployed to prevent any irregularities.
Enhanced Precautions at Sensitive Polling Stations
Preventive measures were enforced across the city, including strict security at all polling stations to deter potential malpractices. Sensitive areas were under heightened surveillance, with rapid response teams stationed to address any issues within 5–10 minutes. Prohibitory orders were imposed around polling stations, requiring shops and offices to remain closed and restricting vehicle parking in these areas.
Sharma confirmed that the police’s well-coordinated efforts ensured peaceful elections in the Pune Police Commissionerate area, which includes parts of Shirur, Purandar, and Khadakwasla constituencies.
Smooth Coordination and Planning
The police, led by senior officers, meticulously planned the deployment and monitoring of polling stations. Quick Action Teams were stationed in vulnerable areas to maintain order. Preventive measures like prohibitory orders were enforced around polling centers, ensuring a smooth and disruption-free voting process.
“Thanks to the efficient planning and deployment of our forces, the election concluded peacefully without any major disruptions,” said Sharma.
