Pune: Following opposition to Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s recent concert in Kothrud, concerns have emerged regarding the fate of upcoming events in the area.

The concert faced objections over the use of high-powered sound systems, potential traffic disruptions, and the initial permission for alcohol consumption, which was later revoked. Despite these challenges, the event proceeded as planned. Some local organizations and residents had protested, citing disturbances to peace and traffic issues, with banners reading “Kothrudkars Want Peace” displayed near the venue.

Kothrud MLA Chandrakant Patil also opposed the event, warning of a BJP-led protest if it went ahead. He stated, “This event will disrupt peace in the Kothrud area, and I oppose it entirely.” However, after the permission for alcohol consumption was withdrawn, the concert was allowed to take place.

The venue has hosted musical events in the past and is scheduled to hold additional festivals in December and January. Traffic congestion during previous events has added to residents’ concerns.

“Opposing alcohol consumption at such events is reasonable, but protesting the entire event seems contradictory. Many concerts have happened here before without similar objections,” stated a resident.

This controversy raises questions about how future events in the area will be managed amid growing public scrutiny.
