A spate of snatching incidents has left residents of Pune, particularly in the Pimple Saudagar area, feeling vulnerable and concerned about their safety. The latest incident involved a woman, Rupal Mahajan, who was riding a two-wheeler with her daughter near HDFC Bank when a young man snatched her handbag, causing her neck to hurt.
This incident is not an isolated one. Aniket Kirve’s sister was also a victim of mobile snatching behind Shivar Hotel Lane, while a maid from a society in the area was robbed of her purse while waiting for an auto at Dutta Mandir.
Residents are demanding that the authorities take immediate action to address the issue. “The recent surge in snatching incidents is a matter of serious concern,” said Chandan Chaurasia, a resident of Pimple Saudagar. “It appears that the miscreants involved in these crimes have no fear of law enforcement, and this is creating an unsafe environment for the community.”
The police have registered complaints in both incidents, and are taking steps to crack down on the perpetrators. Speaking to Pune Pulse, ACP Sachin Hire said, “We have increased patrolling and we are constantly finding traces of the criminals. We are working to apprehend the culprits and ensure that the community feels safe.”
However, residents are calling for more to be done to prevent such incidents in the future. “Given the growing number of such incidents, it is essential that the police take immediate action to address this matter and prevent further incidents from occurring,” said Chaurasia.
The Pune Police have been taking steps to crack down on criminal activities in the city. However, more needs to be done to address the specific issue of snatching incidents in areas like Pimple Saudagar.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and cautious, especially in busy areas, and to report any incidents of snatching to the police immediately.
