A bride in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district called off her marriage after the jai mala ritual when she learned that her groom, whom she believed to be a government employee, actually worked in the private sector. The groom’s family left after waiting a long time without the bride. The girl’s family had arranged for her to marry an engineer from Balrampur, Chhattisgarh, based on claims that the groom’s family lived in rented accommodation in Kannauj and that he was a government engineer with significant land ownership.

On the wedding night, the groom’s procession arrived at a guest house, and the Dwarchar ritual was performed. The jaimala ceremony took place late at night, but around 12:45 AM, the bride learned the truth about the groom’s employment status and decided not to proceed with the wedding rituals.

When asked about her choice to stop the wedding, the bride explained that she couldn’t marry someone in the private sector, as she had been promised that the groom would have a government job. Her statement left both families in shock, and even though they tried to convince her, she stood firm in her decision.

As the situation became more tense, local residents gathered to mediate between the two families. To help resolve the issue, the groom called to obtain his payslip and showed it to the bride’s family, which indicated a monthly salary of Rs 1,20,000.

Despite this, the bride remained determined not to go through with the marriage. Ultimately, both families agreed to settle the wedding expenses on their own. After reaching a financial agreement, the groom left without his bride. Both parties managed to cover the expenses, and the groom’s family returned home without her. No police complaint was filed regarding the incident.
