Pune Crime Branch Dog 'Leo' Passes Away; Played A Key Role In Anti-Narcotics Operations
Pune, November 26, 2024: Leo, a Labrador from the Pune Crime Branch’s dog squad, passed away today. Born on July 20, 2016, Leo joined the police force on September 20, 2016, and served as a narcotics detection dog, contributing significantly to various operations.
Notable Achievements:
- December 28, 2019: Assisted Kondhwa Police Station in seizing 50 kg of cannabis and MD drugs from a Nigerian national in the Kondhwa area.
- August 31, 2022: Helped Loni Kalbhor Police Station seize 70 kg of cannabis from a field.
Leo regularly conducted inspections at railway stations, bus depots, and Yerwada Jail, preventing the smuggling of narcotics. He also demonstrated his skills during training sessions for Indian Army personnel and students in schools, earning widespread appreciation.
Leo succumbed to an esophageal illness. His final rites were performed at the Pune Municipal Veterinary Crematorium near Pune Railway Station. The ceremony was attended by senior officers, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), the dog squad’s inspector, other police officials, and a saluting guard.
Leo’s demise has left the police department mourning the loss of a dedicated and invaluable member of their team.
