A family from Bihar found themselves trapped in a thick forest in Khanapur taluk, Belagavi district, after following Google Maps directions to Goa. The family, including children, was stranded about 8 kilometers inside the Bhimghad wildlife zone, spending a harrowing night in their car until they were rescued on Friday.

The incident occurred when Rajdas Ranjitdas and his family passed through Khanapur town and followed the path between Shirodaga and Hemmadaga villages, as directed by Google Maps. The map led them deep into the forest, where they lost mobile network coverage and became isolated. Surrounded by wildlife, the family was unable to contact anyone for help.

The next morning, the family retraced their route for 3 kilometers until they regained signal. They called the police helpline, and the information was passed to Khanapur police. Using GPS coordinates and local villagers, the police managed to locate the stranded family and bring them to safety.

The forest area is known for its wildlife, and the family was fortunate to be able to make the call. Recently, a farmer in the same area lost part of his leg in a bear attack. This incident highlights the risks of relying solely on Google Maps for navigation, following a similar tragic event in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where three people were killed after their car followed incorrect directions from the app.

This is a reminder to always exercise caution when using navigation apps in unfamiliar areas.
